HAIR DESIGN STUDIO
89 SOUTH MAIN STREET KILMARNOCK VIRGINIA 22482
When did you know you wanted to do hair? All of my dolls were bald and at the age of six I begged my parents for a "Betty Beauty Parlor". From Junior High until I entered cosmetology school at 15, I cut all my friend's hair and even did some pageant work. How long have you been doing color? Since 1970 How would you describe your approach to doing hair color? I look at skin tone, shape of face and form of the hair. I also pay attention to the style and age of the person. It is so important to take the person's persona into consideration. Be age appropriate whether they are young, old or in-between. What inspires your creativity? New clients or existing clients that I've convenced to change their look. Attending educational events and classes will also spur me into the creative mode. What advice would you give someone considering coloring their hair for the first time? It depends on who that person is. If they are a high-fashion teenager, we're going for the wow factor. If they are an aging hippie, we're going for the natural factor. Do you customize a hair color service for each and every client? Yes as each client is an individual with their own needs and wants. What celebrity always has great hair? My clients are my celebrities and they all look fabulous no matter what kind of hair they have. What's your approach to returning haircolor clients? Each client is assessed as though they are in my chair for the first time. A returning client has a different head of hair from the last visit so I treat it as such. Describe your personal style: I am an aging tomboy, equestrian and singer. This means I'm all over the place. Sometimes in a t-shirt, sometimes in a ball gown (prefer the t-shirt). My hair reflects this. EXERPTS FROM THE REDKEN WEBSITE INTERVIEW
